In Wal-Mart's Backyard

In Wal-Mart's Backyard

Tomorrow, as part of the St Louis Community College's "One Book, One College" initiative which is reading Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, the documentary Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price will be shown at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley.

That's almost literally in the backyard of a Wal-Mart! Driving, it's probably about 1 mile from the Wal-Mart at 10741 West Florissant Avenue in the surreally-named "North County Festival" shopping center to the Social Science Building at Flo Valley.

But on foot, if you hop a fence or two and cut across the college parking lots P-12 and P-13, you could probably get from the rear dock of the Wal-Mart to the Social Science Building in about 10 minutes, maybe less. Also, the #27 North County Shuttle bus serves both the shopping center and the community college campus directly.

Anyway, the documentary is showing from 11 am to 12:30 pm in SS 108 tomorrow (March 2, 2006).
